School Games from today

PALAKKAD: The 50th Kerala School Games will get underway here on Thursday, with competitions in 15 disciplines to be held at 13 venues across the town.

Over 6,500 boys and girls, representing the 14 districts of the State, will be participating in the six-day event. While the first three days have been reserved for the competitions in disciplines like badminton, ball badminton, basketball, cricket, football, handball, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and wrestling, the athletics events will be held at the Municipal Stadium from December 3 to 5.

While the competitions in the various other events will be conducted for two age-groups, under-19 and under-17, the athletics events will be held for three age-groups, under-19, under-17 and under-14.

The organisers have arranged for an elaborate opening ceremony on December 2. The Education Minister, M.A. Baby, will be the chief guest. — Special Correspondent
