NEW DELHI: Two alleged criminals who were fleeing after committing a robbery in a jewellery shop at Krishna Nagar were overpowered by two police constables at Geeta Colony in East Delhi on Wednesday. Recognising their exemplary act of courage, Police Commissioner K.K. Paul has recommended their names for out-of-turn promotions. According to the police, three robbers struck at one Soni Jewellers at Krishna Nagar around noon and fled with 24 gold bangles. After the matter was reported to the Police Control Room, descriptions of the culprits were flashed on the police wireless net. While a hunt for the robbers was on, constables Saleem and Abrar -- who were posted at a picket near Punjab & Sindh Bank in Geeta Colony, -- spotted two of the suspects coming on a motorcycle. The constables tried to intercept the motorcycle at which one of the culprits whipped out a firearm. One of the constables then threw his batten on the culprits, due to which the culprit accidentally pulled the trigger and ended up injuring himself in the finger. In the melee, the robbers fell from the motorcycle and tried to flee on foot. Suresh and Babu Lal gave a chase and overpowered the duo. Two country-made firearms were recovered from their possession. Motorcycle was found stolen from Bhajanpura.
