Impounded DTC buses released

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday released around 20 of the impounded DTC buses after Delhi government paid a fine of Rs 3,000 for each, a day ahead of the scheduled second round of meeting between transport officials of both states to resolve the row over plying of buses.

A senior DTC official said the Delhi government team will tomorrow meet UP Principal Transport Secretary, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation executives and other senior officials here to settle the matter amicably.

The first round of the talks were held on November 27 in Lucknow but it remained inconclusive with both sides refusing to budge from their stands.

Alleged criminals held

NEW DELHI: Three alleged Uttar Pradesh-based criminals were arrested at Rohini in North-West Delhi by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police on Tuesday. The police claim to have recovered three "sophisticated" country-made firearms and some stolen articles from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would gather near a telephone exchange at Rohini Sector 11, a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Swatantra Kumar mounted a raid there. The culprits opened fire at the police in a bid to flee, but they were overpowered.

The three were identified as Khurram, Iqbal and Abid Hussain.

The police recovered some articles from them that turned out to be part of what had recently been stolen in a robbery at Ludhiana in Punjab.

Signature campaign

NEW DELHI: Opposing the attempts by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to introduce adolescence sex education from the primary level in schools across the country, the Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan has launched a signature campaign throughout the Capital against the proposed move.

Criticising the move to impart sex education at such a tender age, the Sansthan has decided to submit lakhs of signature sheets to President, A.P. J. Abdul Kalam in order to lodge its strong protest and convey the strong sentiment against such a move. Both the Union Human Resource Development Ministry and the Delhi Government are understood to have drawn up a syllabus for imparting sex education to children on the plea that in view of the massive spread of HIV/AIDS there was an urgent need to educate the young generation about the dangers of this deadly virus and how preventive measures could be put in place.
