City college signs MoU with 29 Finnish varsities

DAYANANDA SAGAR Institutions (DSI), which was in talks with the Asia Network of the Universities of Applied Sciences, Finland, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 29 Finnish universities. The MoU allows for understanding on systems, teaching methodologies, courses, content, award of degrees, hands-on learning and interaction with the industry.

After visiting 40 universities throughout India, the Asia Network had identified DSI, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and Delhi University for partnerships.

In the first phase of the collaboration, the focus will be on student mobility, particularly in the areas of technology, ICT, Business Administration and Management, Health Sciences (Nursing, Physiotherapy, Public Health Nursing), Hospitality and Tourism. Academic mobility and practical placements of students in Indian and Finnish firms will be part of first phase. The second phase will involve intensive courses and international seminars for students and for companies in Finland and India. Also on the agenda is a joint research and development project between the chosen higher education institutions, research institutes and working life.

RVCE teams go abroad

THE CITY-BASED R.V. College of Engineering (RVCE) sent nine members of DEBSOC, the college's literary and debating society, to two inter-university debating competitions in England this month. The team battled it out at the Oxford and Cambridge. DEBSOC had made a mark at the 13th All Asians Debate held at Langkawi, Malaysia. While one of its teams, RVCE-A was ranked second, and RVCE-B finished 10th among the 96 participating teams.

The team members for the Oxford Inter-University were Rohit Kamra and Rochelle D'Souza (RVCE-A) and Shachi Katira and Priyanka Ramaswamy (RVCE-B).

At the Cambridge Inter-Universiy, RVCE-A was represented by Rohit Kamra and Anup B. Prakash. RVCE-B was represented by Krutika Sogal and Pushkala Jayaraman. Both teams at Oxford qualified for five out of seven rounds. The final was a contest between teams from Yale, Cambridge, Stanford and an Irish team. At Cambridge, the RVCE and the National Law School of India teams the were only ones representing Asia.

RVCE students said the trip had earned the college invitations to many British parliamentary debates scheduled to be held in Yale, Bristol, Scotland and Ireland.

Bhavan's programme

BHARATIYA VIDYA Bhavan is starting the second batch of its one-year weekend Post Graduate Executive Management Programme (PGEMP) on January 6. The course is designed for working executives and is structured to meet the dire needs of neo-managers considering their constraint for time.

Classes for the PGEMP will be conducted on 50 weekends (Saturday evenings and Sundays full day). The faculty will be drawn from doctorates and industry experts, with visiting faculty from the U.S.. All three streams — Finance, Marketing and Human Resource — will be covered in the programme. For more information, contact B. Ratnam (22382798).
