ENDURING LEGACY: Tushar Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi with a blow-up of Time magazine's special anniversary issue in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong: Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru were among those heroes who were remembered as Time magazine held a function here to mark a `60 years of Asian Heroes' special anniversary issue.

The two heroes of India's freedom movement were represented by Gandhiji's grandson, Tushar A. Gandhi, and Nehru's great grandson, Rahul Gandhi, at a dinner here on Wednesday night.

The U.S.-based magazine presented recognition awards to heroes at the event.

"They were opposite in nature, but they shared a passion for freedom and justice, and together created a giant of democracy," Time says about Gandhi and Nehru.

Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, who has been honoured as a Time Asian Hero, attended.

"It has been our privilege to encounter the most exceptional of them. We have many of them here with us..., and it is an honour to acknowledge the role they have played in shaping the Asia of our times," said Time International Editor Michael Elliott.

Former Philippine President and Time Asian Hero Corazon Aquino was guest of honour.

Among others honoured were Japan's Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka, who made Sony an icon of the country's rebirth; Youk Chhang, who was a relentless investigator of Cambodia's killing fields; Taiwanese engineer Stan Shih who turned Taiwan into a personal computer-manufacturing powerhouse; and King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who used his moral authority to guide Thailand through many a crisis.
