BHOPAL: Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Jamuna Devi has criticised the performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party led State Government on its completion of one year in office. She has issued a statement here alleging that corruption is on the rise and people were witnessing lawlessness everywhere.
Rapes and murders
Rolling out statistics, she said that every day, eight women were becoming victims of rape and six persons were getting murdered in the State. People's representatives were also becoming targets of attack. Citing a written reply by the Government in the State Assembly, Ms. Devi said that Madhya Pradesh leads all other States whether it is rape or crime against children. The State has also registered the second highest incidence of crime against Dalits. On the issue of farmers, she said that the Government has failed to improve the situation when it came to supplying electricity to the farm sector. The farmers are neither getting electricity nor chemical fertilisers. The scenario on agriculture production and industrial fronts is also dismal. In another statement, the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman and former State Minister Raja Pateria has said that the State Government lacks direction. He said that the former Chief Minister, Uma Bharti had introduced the concept of "panch-ja" five Js for Jal, Jungle, Jameen, Janwar and Jan (water, forest, land, cattle and human resource). Her successor, Babulal Gaur's focus was on "gokul gram" to provide basic facilities in few selected villages.
