This Day That Age
The Chinese Premier, Mr. Chou En-lai, has appealed for closer understanding and good relations between India and China. Addressing Members of Parliament in New Delhi on November 29, he referred to two points in which all sections of Indian people were keenly interested and assured India that China had no territorial ambitions and that despite differences in the approach to social and political problems co-existence was practicable. About the Hungarian situation, he said: "History will show that in the present-day international relations, attempts by one side to impose its will upon the other, contrary to the five principles, will not work in the end." Mr. Chou En-lai referred to the common frontier of several thousands of miles between the two countries and said: "For thousands of years our two countries have been influencing each other but have never interfered with each other. The record of this long friendly coexistence naturally becomes a tradition which is precious to every one."
