MOSCOW: Nikolay Davydenko of Russia plays Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina in the opening singles of the Davis Cup final on Friday. Thursday's draw also pitted two-time Grand Slam champion Marat Safin of Russia, ranked 26th, against eighth-ranked David Nalbandian on carpet at the Olympic Indoor stadium. Dmitry Tursunov and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia are scheduled to play Nalbandian and Agustin Calleri in Saturday's doubles. Russia, which will be defending an 11-year unbeaten record at home, is making its fourth appearance in the final. Argentina has never won the trophy, but it lost in the final to the United States in 1981. The last time the two teams met, Argentina beat visiting Russia 5-0 in the 2003 quarterfinals. If Argentina wins it will become the 13th champion since the competition's inception in 1900. AP
