Panel submits revised syllabus

Vani Doraisamy

"Revisions are meant to make the syllabus easier and lucid"

  • No change in question paper patterns
  • Circular to be sent to all schools informing them of changes

CHENNAI: Students in Plus Two can look forward to a more lucidly presented syllabus from next year, thanks to the recommendations submitted by the Naganathan committee to the State Education department on Thursday.

"The old syllabus has been retained for both Plus One and Plus Two. We have removed the difficulty in the narrative and simplified the mode of presentation. The revisions are meant to make the syllabus easier and lucid. Also, some factual contradictions, inaccuracies, anomalies and mistakes have been corrected," M. Naganathan, vice chairman of the State Planning Commission, told reporters after handing over the simplified syllabus to State Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu.

    To be posted online

The revisions in the syllabus would be made public on Friday when they would be posted online and also sent to the schools for implementation. There would be no change in question paper patterns which would be based on the newly presented syllabus from next year.

While the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Tamil, Biology, Botany and Zoology texts have undergone a few deletions which would come into effect immediately, the modified presentation itself would be incorporated in the next edition of the texts.

School managements would be informed about the deletions. The History and Economy textbooks have been rewritten in a simplified manner, which would come into effect next year.

"A circular will be sent to all school managements informing them of the changes. The revised syllabus was presented to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi who approved it," Mr. Thennarasu said.
