NEW DELHI: Several former cricketers, including Bishan Singh Bedi and Chetan Chauhan, paid glowing tributes to Polly Umrigar, Hanumant Singh and Vijay Mehra during a memorial service organised by TERI, here on Thursday. Bedi described Umrigar as a great human being who served the game without expecting anything in return. "During his playing days, Polly was honest and was always looking to help youngsters. His cricketing wisdom was unmatched," he said. Chauhan remembered the days when he played for Maharashtra against Hanumant Singh who represented Rajasthan. "He was a fine gentleman but it was unfortunate that he could not play for India for long even after scoring a century on Test debut." Other prominent speakers included Prakash Bhandari, Surender Khanna, Vinay Lamba, Atul Wassan, Rahul Sanghvi and the former Sports Editor of The Times of India, K. Dutta. Former Delhi and North Zone cricketer Venkat Sundaram initiated the proceedings at the solemn function organised by TERI's Dr. R.K. Pachauri. Special Correspondent
