South Zone claims title

BANGALORE: South Zone claimed the title in the DGQA inter-zone football championship with a 3-0 win over North Zone in the final here on Thursday. Prabhkaran (seventh), Stany (10th) and Manoj Kumar (43rd minute) were the scorers.

Lt. General Rakesh Puri, President, DGQA, gave away the prizes.

Good day for PESIT

Host PES Institute of Technology (PESIT) won its football and basketball matches in the PESIT Infina inter-collegiate sports festival here on Thursday.

In football, PESIT defeated NCET 5-1 and in basketball, PESIT humbled Oxford College 37-21.

Men: Cricket: KSIT 124 for six (Jeevan Raj 48) bt VDIT 100; SCIT 115 lost to DBIT 116 for two.

Badminton: PESIT bt Mortouwa College (Sri Lanka) 3-0; PESIT bt Oxford 3-0; RVCE bt UVCE 3-0.

Table tennis: MVJCE bt PESIT `B' 3-0; PESIT `A' bt Oxford College 3-0; RVCE bt UVCE 3-0. Football: PESIT bt Acharya 4-1; UVCE bt Oxford 5-4; DSCE bt SRSIT 1-0; RNSIT bt AIT 2-0; Alpha bt SCTIT 3-1; PSSIT bt NCET 5-1.

Basketball: DSCE bt NCET 56-26; PESIT bt Oxford 37-21.

Carrom: NCET bt SCIT 2-0; Acharya bt AMC 2-0.

Chess: UVCE bt IME 3-1; NCET bt SCIT 4-0.

Women: Carrom: Achayra bt Oxford 2-1.

Table tennis: PESIT bt Oxford 3-0.

Chandrashekar for Doha Asiad

International referee Maradi Chandrashekar of Karnataka will officiate in the Asian Games taekwondo championship to be in Doha from December 7 to 10. Chandrashekar had been a referee at the Busan Asiad in 2002 and also at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
