Mysore : Host Karnataka and rival Haryana will hope for a turn-around in their fortunes as the teams gear up for the Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group `A' match commencing at the Gangotri Glades Ground here on Friday. Both teams suffered opening round losses with Karnataka suffering a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Baroda at Vadodara while Haryana, playing at home in Rohtak, lost to Andhra by 114 runs. Karnataka coach and former Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad said `maximum points' would be the sole aim of his team. "We are not taking any team lightly and we have data sheets on all our rival teams, just that our boys need to go out there and play according to the plans," Prasad said. Relief is also evident in the host ranks, as skipper Yere Goud has got the BCCI's clearance to play for Karnataka this season after being forced to warm the reserve benches in the last match. "Batsmen like Barrington are capable of playing long innings, it is just a matter of getting a fifty or a hundred to get the confidence going," Prasad said. Haryana skipper Amit Mishra promised "we will give our best" and the team will hope to ride on its talismanic allrounder Joginder Sharma, who excelled with his seam bowling.
Sporting pitch
The team did have a few worry lines as Joginder nursed a niggling injury during the morning nets here on Thursday but the team management has stressed that it is nothing to worry about. The curator M.S. Ravindra claimed that the pitch would be a sporting one and hopefully the two teams would put their collective best foot forward. The teams: Karnataka: Yere Goud (captain), Robin Uthappa, Barrington Rowland, Bharat Chipli, C. Raghu, V.S. Thilak Naidu (wicket-keeper), B. Akhil, Sunil Joshi, N.C. Aiyappa, Udit Patel, Vinay Kumar, Stuart Binny, Devaraj Patil, K.P. Appanna and Deepak Chougule. Coach: Venkatesh Prasad. Physio: Ramakanth. Manager: P.V. Shashikanth.
