Minister asks Jayamala to retract statement

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran has asked actor Jayamala to retract the statements she had made regarding her entry into the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.

The Minister made the suggestion in his reply to a letter from Ms. Jayalamala early in October. She said in her letter that she was innocent and should not be booked for conspiracy.

Baseless claim

Mr. Sudhakaran replied that she should represent the matter before the Crime Branch, which was investigating the matter, and give her version.

The Minister said she had made a baseless claim and investigations had shown that she could not have entered the sanctum sanctorum. She was not a partner of the conspiracy. However, if she had been used by astrologer Parappanangadi Unnikrishna Panicker to create a controversy, she should state that. Her statement had injured the sentiments of many devotees, he said.

`Acted constitutionally'

Noting that Ms. Jayamala had withdrawn her statement against him and admitted that he was not involved in any conspiracy, Mr. Sudhakaran said that the Government's business was only to expose conspiracies. It had only acted constitutionally. There was no move to bring her to book for conspiracy.
