TAMBARAM: The three-day annual Jawaharlal Nehru Science and Maths Exhibition for students from schools in the Chengalpattu Educational District began at Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Selaiyur near Tambaram on Thusday. More than 1,500 students from district are displaying their models at the expo, organised around the theme `science and technology for sustainable development.' Labour Welfare Minister T.M. Anbarasan inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of MLAs, officials the Education Department, teachers, students and parents. The guests enjoyed the student presentations. Officials said the five topics for the exhibition were food and agriculture, industry and environment, energy, educational technology and mathematical modelling and transport and communication. N. Vijayan, principal of the host school, said they expected 2,500 students to visit the exhibition every day. Arrangements have been made to provide proper sanitation, first aid, food and drinking water to the participating students, including accommodation for students coming from outstation.
