CHENNAI: The official HIV/AIDS campaign in the State goes online again this December 1, when the world observes the theme `Stop AIDS, keep the promise'. The Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) and Galatta.com have jointly put up an online portal www.aidsfreetn.com to help the public learn about AIDS, ask questions, and talk about the killer syndrome. The objective of the TANSACS team, led by project director Supriya Sahu, in shaping various events and awareness campaigns has been to get people talking about HIV/AIDS, and tap into the potential of the Internet on the mission to create an AIDS-free Tamil Nadu. Since 2005, TANSACS has focused on spreading this message by conducting interesting contests and campaigns on the Internet, through SMS and FM modes. The online campaigns were incentivized in an effort to make AIDS awareness a "fun" subject and boost people participation.
Prizes
The portal has started running contests for people who want to win exciting prizes by just knowing about HIV/AIDS. Log on to participate, and grab the chance to win a wide range of prizes, including two tickets to Singapore, celebrity merchandise through an SMS contest, free medical check-ups, movie tickets and more. Official movie and celebrity websites Yahoo! India and MSN India will also feature the campaign, in addition to 55 city portals in Tamil Nadu.
