TIRUCHI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has notified a change in the route of the mini-marathon scheduled for December 3 in the city. The mini-marathon would cover a distance of five km starting from the National School grounds at Melachinthamani instead of the previously announced starting point of Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School. The run would take the following route - Melachinthamani, Anna Statue, Karur Bypass Road, Shastri Road, Regional Transport Office, Pattabiramanpillai Street, MGR Statue and Iyyappan Temple to reach the St.John's Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, a CII press release said.
Second starting point
The mini-marathon would also have a second starting point _ a two-km stretch starting from Anna Nagar Uzhavar Sandhai grounds, for the benefit of corporate executives, senior citizens, women and VIPs. The event, the first of its kind in the city, is being organised as part of the CII's initiative to position Tiruchi as a city of unity and integrity and to sensitise the masses on HIV/AIDS, the significance of fitness and good health. It would also be a run for a cause as the CII has planned to construct an additional school building for the Thennur Subbiah Memorial School as part of its corporate responsibility initiative. Apart from professional athletes, school and college students (above 14 years of age), corporate and industry representatives, government employees, uniformed personnel, members of voluntary organisations and citizens are expected to participate in the run scheduled to commence at 7 a.m. on December 3. Participants have been advised to assemble at 6.15 a.m. for registration which will close by 6.45 a.m. The CII would award cash prizes to the winners of the marathon under five categories.
