PDS shops inspected

TIRUCHI: About 54 Public Distribution System (PDS) shops run by the Cooperatives Department were inspected by a flying squad led by the Joint Registrar of Cooperatives R. Jayaram on Thursday.

During the inspection, short-fall in cash balance to the tune of Rs.12,406 and bogus invoices worth about Rs.24,000 were detected from some of the shops. A few other irregularities were also detected and departmental action has been ordered against the erring staff of the ration shops, according to a Cooperatives Department Press release.

Training for workers

The `induction course' training for workers planning to migrate to Malaysia will be held in Tiruchi from December 6 to 11.

The training will be conducted by the Overseas Manpower Corporation, a State government undertaking. Only those holding valid passports will be eligible for the programme.

The course fee will be Rs.4, 500.

Weighing scales for LPG cylinders

All delivery boys of the domestic LPG cylinders have been provided with scales for weighing the cylinders supplied by them. Consumers could check the weight of the cylinders if necessary, according to a press release from the Collector Ashish Vachhani.

Mettur level

The water level in the Mettur dam stood at 115.77 feet against its capacity of 120 feet on Thursday.

The inflow was 6,560 cusecs and the discharge, 6,984 cusecs. - Staff Reporter
