Sealing issue raised in Lok Sabha
Raising the matter during zero hour, Mr. Dikshit of the Congress said about a 150 shops that had been given relief by the Supreme Court were sealed reportedly at the behest of the member Monitoring Committee as these were situated in front the housing society where the member resides. Mr. Dikshit said the member went to the local police station and insisted that the shops be sealed despite the Municipal Corporation of Delhi officer's pointing out that the move would be illegal as the shops were exempted from sealing. "These shops are owned by poor people and the sealing drive was carried out by the member to satisfy his ego," Mr. Dikshit alleged while wanting to know whether the committees were constituted to take care of the personal interests and egos of the members.
Three arrested for running betting racket
Acting on a tip-off, a Crime Branch team raided a house at Village Barwala in North-West Delhi on Wednesday and arrested the accused -- identified as Sohan Lal, Puneet and Surender -- at the spot. They seized a recording system, a colour television, five mobile phones, one tape recorder, 16 cassettes, calculators and other gadgets from the house. The police said Sohan Lal was involved in betting for the past three years, while Puneet and Surender used to assist him. People from places like Delhi, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Noida, Sonepat and Gurgaon had placed bets through their racket.
Two arrested in theft case
On Wednesday, the police received a complaint from Veena Tuneja alleging that her shop had been burgled and gold and diamond jewellery were missing. Acting on the complaint, a case was registered at the Karol Bagh police station and investigations taken up. Enquiries by the police revealed that one of the employees of the shop, Babloo Sharma, who was on a two-day leave, had not turned up. They picked up his former colleague Dhananjay Dikshit for questioning. During interrogation, Dhananjay -- who worked at Kashmir Jewellers located in the adjacent building, -- purportedly confessed to his involvement and revealed that he and Babloo had committed the burglary.
