Vikas Yadav's bail plea rejected
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a bail petition of Vikas Yadav, key accused in the Nitish Katara murder case.
A Bench, comprising Justices K. G. Balakrishnan and D. K. Jain, declined to consider the plea. Counsel contended that Yadav was entitled to bail in view of the completion of Bharti Yadav's deposition before a trial judge.
The High Court had refused to grant bail to Yadav on the ground that Ms. Bharti was yet to be examined.
As Ms. Bharti had given her testimony, the Bench asked counsel to approach the High Court. Accordingly, he withdrew the petition and the Bench dismissed it as withdrawn.
The prosecution case was that Vikas and Vishal kidnapped Katara from a marriage party in Ghaziabad and murdered him, as they did not like his friendship with their sister.
