Sankar Group's pact with Tata Motors

To set up plant in Uttaranchal


  • To invest Rs. 20 crore in three phases
  • To focus on high-end gaskets

    CHENNAI : Sankar Group of companies, manufacturers of gaskets for automobile producers, has entered into a ten-year agreement with Tata Motors as the latter's only sourcing partner for cylinder head gaskets. Sankar Group will be supplying 2.5 lakh gaskets annually to Tata Motors for its Indica vehicles.

    Addressing a press conference here on Friday, M. K. Unnithan, Chairman and Managing Director of Sankar group, said Sankar would be setting up a dedicated facility at Pantnagar in Uttaranchal. The plant would be set up with an investment of Rs. 20 crore in three phases. It would have a capacity to make five million gaskets annually.

    Mr. Unnithan said that at present, the Chennai plant under the name Sankar Sealing Systems Pvt Ltd., was supplying gasket to various OEM customers such as Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra, Kirloskar and a few others.

    It had a capacity of five million gaskets annually. It had a technology tie-up with a Germany-based Frenzilit - Werke GmbH.

    Sankar Sealing would concentrate on high-end gaskets, Mr. Unnithan said.
