ONGOLE: Several journalists on Friday received help from the Government to meet their medical expenses. Ongole MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy gave away cheques to journalists at a meeting organised under the auspices of the Ongole Press Club. Government released the amount from journalists welfare fund to meet the medical expenses of Tirupati Reddy (Rs. 20,000), Sadasiva Sastri (Rs. 25,000), Sreenivasa Rao (Rs. 15,000), Koti Reddy (Rs. 7,000), Sreenivas (Rs. 7,000) and Haribabu (Rs. 5,000). District Collector B.Udaya Lakshmi gave away cheque for Rs. 50,000 sanctioned to the bereaved family of Narasimha Rao, journalist at Tallur, who died of electrocution. Former chairman of the zilla parishad, Mukku Kasi Reddy gave away Rs. 10,000 from his own funds to Sreenivasa Rao, who broke his leg while covering an assignment. Senior journalist Ramakrishna felt the need to create awareness among journalists about welfare schemes introduced by the Government.
