Minister interacts with poor-home dwellers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will organise screenings for those living at the Sri Chitra Poor Home every month, Minister for Culture and Education M.A. Baby has said.

Inaugurating the public screenings organised by the academy as part of the 11th International Film Festival of Kerala at the poor home here on Friday evening, Mr. Baby said film festivals were a window to the world that helped to inform and educate the audience.

Mr.Baby, who watched the Iranian film Colours of Paradise, along with them, interacted with them and suggested a number of films they should essentially watch.

He said that the academy would take the initiative to screen such films.

The Minister, academy chairman K.R. Mohanan, vice-chairman V.K. Joseph, secretary K.S. Sreekumar, actor Madhupal, V. Sivankutty, MLA, and councillor Karamana Hari were among those who present.

Mr. Mohanan said that the academy would organise screenings for youth and students in different parts of the State.

More than 100 international celebrities would attend the festival beginning on December 8.

Retrospective

Galuber Rocha, Brazilian director whose films were included in the retrospective section, too would attend the festival. Directors from Egypt, Iran, France, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Uzbekistan too would attend the festival.

Indian directors such as Mani Kaul, Shabana Azmi, Gautham Ghosh, Nandita Das, Himanshu Khatwa, and Girish Kasaravalli too would attend the festival, an academy release said.
