TIRUCHI: A team of Vedic pandits from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), honoured the priests and authorities at Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple on Friday. The TTD has been offering this annual honour on the `Kaisika ekadasi' to mark the historical link between Tirumala and Srirangam, particularly the safe custody of the idol for over two decades during the Mughal invasion. The Joint Commissioner and Executive Officer of the temple, B. Sivakumar was present. The honour included silk `vastaras' for Sri Ranganathar, Sri Ranganayaki, Sri Namperumal, Sri Upaya Nachiar and Sri Ramanujar. Reciting verses from Divya Prabandham, the `vastras' were taken from the Rajagopuram to the sanctum sanctorum. A large number of devotees offered worship to Sri Namperumal. The deity was taken from the sanctum sanctorum to Sandanu mandapam. A total of 365 vastras were adorned to Sri Namperumal on Friday night, followed by 365 holy `arthis.' `Arayar sevai' was also performed, which was followed by recital of `Kaisika Puranam.' The festival concludes with the `Karpoora padi etru' sevai on Saturday.
