ANANTAPUR: District Collector D. Kadmiel launched the new system of disbursement of welfare pensions here on Friday along with passbooks. With the new system, beneficiaries would get their pension amount on the first of every month promptly. The Collector visited Rapthadu village near here to inspect the new system and interacted with the beneficiaries. Pensions would be disbursed by the `grama aikya sanghams' of Indira Kranti Patham and village-level officers. He hoped that irregularities in the disbursement of pensions, if any, would come to light in the new system.
Passbooks
He also examined the passbooks printed for the purpose and the record books. Asked about her previous experience in getting old age pension 70-year-old Laxmidevamma told the Collector that it depended on the panchayat secretary's convenience and the amount would be disbursed once in two or three months. Mallikarjuna, a physically challenged PG student of Sri Krishnadevaraya University said the new system was useful for people like him.
Rs. 3.12 crores aid
There were 1,56,322 old age, widow and physically handicapped pension beneficiaries in the district and they would get an aid of Rs. 3.12 crores every month. Eeswaramma and Anjinamma, office bearers of Pandemeti Rayudu Gram Aikya Sangham, the IKP unit entrusted with the task of disbursement of pensions, said that they would ensure that pensions reached the homes of beneficiaries who were not in a position to move out.
