WARANGAL: Rallies, awareness meetings and cultural programmes involving all sections of society marked World Aids Day celebrations on Friday. The district police took out a rally from District Police Office to Hanamkonda Chowrastha and then back. Slogans against AIDS rent the air. The police also conducted an awareness meeting held at Zilla Parishad office. DIG Ravi Gupta, SP Soumya Mishra, S. D. Gautam, additional SP, and others attended. Members of Red Ribbon Club, NSS units and NCC wing of the ABV Government Degree College in Jangaon took out a massive rally. About 5,000 students representing various educational institutions in the town took part.
Later, a cultural programme was organised.
ADILABAD:
Adilabad SP Anil Kumar appealed to people to take note of the spreading danger of AIDS disease. He said the incidence of the dreaded disease at 1,600 positives from the 40,000 tested recently should be alarming enough.
The Medical and Health Department organised a public meeting on the theme `Stop AIDS - know your HIV status - keep your promise' at NTR Chowk. Collector R. Subba Rao presided over the function.
Sangareddy:
Medak district Collector B. Venkatesam called upon young students to be aware of the dreaded AIDS. Addressing a public meeting the Collector told the students that women top the list of AIDS patients in the district and many were subjected to social boycott by the villagers due to lack of awareness.
Blood donation
MAHABUBNAGAR:
District Collector V. Usha Rani called upon youth to maintain human values to prevent AIDS from society. Addressing a gathering of students and youth at town hall, she stressed the need to propagate methods to be adopted for prevention of AIDS.
The collector inaugurated a blood donation camp organised at NTR Degree College for girls where some 150 girls have donated blood.
Members of Students Islamic Organisation also took out a rally.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson K. Damodar Reddy said that some 2,000 persons were affected by AIDS in the district as per the recent survey by Medical and Health Department.
District Libraries Chairman Sattoor Ramulu Goud, superintendent of District Headquarters Hospital Dr. Chandrudu and others also participated.
