Former Minister criticises Gowda

Staff Correspondent

`There is nothing wrong in the Prime Minister making the announcement on reduction in fuel price'

MYSORE: Refuting the charge by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh violated the model code of conduct by reducing the fuel price, former Education Minister B.K. Chandrashekar said the Chief Minister was not aware of the provisions of the Constitution and was making comments in desperation.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said there was nothing wrong in the Prime Minister making the announcement on reduction in fuel price in the run-up to byelections.

`False claims'

He criticised former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda of misguiding the people by making false claims.

Mr. Kumaraswamy was attacking those who questioned the violation in code of conduct, he added. Mr. Gowda was deceiving people by claiming that he was the architect of Muslim reservation in the State, but that was not true. It was Devaraj Urs, who initiated the process in 1977 and Veerappa Moily implemented it in 1994, he said.

BMIC project

"Despite court's verdict on Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) Project, both Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy are claiming that they would consult legal experts in this regard," he said.
