TDP candidate tries to gatecrash into Collectorate

KARIMNAGAR: TDP nominee for the byelection to Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat L Ramana created a commotion in front of the Collectorate here on Friday by trying to gatecrash into the building premises by climbing over the huge gate, breaking the security cordon and causing concern among police personnel.

Mr Ramana, along with hundreds of women, was demanding the Government to withdraw the controversial GO number 297 immediately and protect the interests of beedi workers. The protestors were also demanding the Government to remove the danger mark on beedi packets.

The womenfolk, along with the TDP leaders, arrived in front of the Collectorate carrying huge effigies of a skull and crossed bones danger mark and squatted on the road obstructing traffic for about five hours and raised slogans against the Government.

Takes part in dharna

Later, TDP candidate L Ramana also participated in the dharna. After sometime, he tried to gatecrash into the premises by breaking the security cordon. However, the police prevented him, but Mr Ramana climbed over the gate and tried to jump inside the premises. But the police prevented him and there was a minor tussle between the police and the protestors. Later, the revenue authorities arrived at the spot.

The protestors demanded the Collector's presence. Accordingly, Collector M V Satyanarayana arrived and assured them that he would take the matter to the notice of the Government. But they were reluctant to move out of the place.

The SP, D S Chauhan, also arrived and tried to convince the protestors, but in vain. The sit-in continued till late in the evening.

After some time, a delegation was called inside the Collectorate premises. After reaching the Collector's chamber, the TDP candidate and the womenfolk again squatted in front of the chambers and raised slogans. After showing the letters sent to the Union and State Governments about the plight of beedi workers, the protestors called off their stir.
