Dubai: An Indian man, jailed for embezzlement, is languishing in a prison here even after the completion of the sentence. Rahim Mujib Rahman, a petrol station supervisor from Kerala, sentenced to one-year prison in May 2003, is still spending time in jail for not paying back the money he is said to have stolen. Mujib Rahman, who was employed as a supervisor at a petrol pump here for over 10 years, was arrested after a company audit found Rs. 9,74,100 missing from his workplace. "I was on vacation when the incident happened," he was quoted as saying in Gulf News. According to Mujib Rahman, the insurance company has reduced the amount he has to give back by half. "I have to pay the money back. The company got the money back from the insurance company," he said, adding that he had not been paid his gratuity of about Rs. 1,14,600. "I am locked up and have no money. My father passed away while I was in jail. I will never be able to get out if I don't pay back the money. I have no money. I don't know what to do," he was quoted as saying.
