COIMBATORE: As many as 27 non-Governmental organisations (NGOs) in Coimbatore district have joined hands to form the Coimbatore District NGO Network (CNN) to create a common platform for various voluntary organisations and movements to come together. Organisations can pool their resources, avoid duplication of activities and work towards social causes, even while maintaining their identity, said D.Srinivasan, Chief Executive Officer, Rural Extension Service Trust, Singanallur, and president of the newly-formed network.
Representation
The network would also take up issues that were outside the ambit of the member NGOs and represent them at the district, State and national levels, he said. Formed in December 2005, the group had NGOs working for various causes as its members. The members could also raise issues and try to find common approaches to the problems, Mr. Srinivasan added. It would also conduct regular meetings, encouraging the members to talk about their activities, challenges they faced and the goals they aspired to achieve.
Conferences
The Network also planned to organise conferences on eradication of drug abuse at the taluk level starting with meetings at Pollachi and Udumalpet on December 11 and 18. A training programme on `organisational behaviour' would be commenced for the co-ordinators of the NGOs.
Finance
The Network would also request banks to provide financial assistance to NGOs. However, it would not act as a funding agency, he added.
