High Court to appoint 20 research assistants

The proposal is part of its golden jubilee celebrations

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has invited applications for 20 posts of law clerk-cum-research assistant.

Conceived as part of its golden jubilee celebrations, this proposal is to encourage young and talented law graduates to join the legal profession.

With the proposal being approved by the State Government, the law clerks-cum-research assistants will be attached to a judge to assist only in administrative and not in judicial work. Those having a recognised degree in law with a maximum of 55 per cent of marks after undergoing a regular course and have enrolled as an advocate with the State Bar Council are eligible to apply. They should be born on or after January 1, 1977. A committee of judges will select the candidates. The High Court has said that law clerks will have free access to the courtroom and the library and also to material, including computers and the Internet. The assignment for these appointees will be for a year from January 2007 to December 2007 and they will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000.

Applications should be submitted along by a passport size photograph and attested certificates to prove age and educational qualifications and enrolment with the Bar Council. The applications should reach the Registrar-General, High Court, Bangalore, on or before 5 p.m. on December 15.
