BELLARY: Tourism and Textiles Minister B. Sriramulu on Saturday launched the Suvarna Kayaka Udyoga Shikshana Yojana aimed at training the educated unemployed youth. Under the programme, 1,191 youths would be trained in Bellary district in various vocations, including readymade garment, footwear, printing, service sector, hospital services, engineering, and construction over in five years. The youths, after completing the training for six months, would be absorbed by the units. A stipend of Rs. 1,500 a month - Rs. 750 from the State government and Rs. 750 from the units - would be given to the trainees. In the first phase, around 161 youths, mostly women, would be trained in making readymade garment and 15 youths would be trained in footwear production at six garment units and a footwear unit in the district. Bellary is known for its readymade garment, especially jeans. Of the 1,191 youths selected, 749 have opted for training in readymade garment, 171 in information technology, 50 in printing, 76 in hospital services, 12 in electrical, five in energy services, 80 in engineering, 34 in food processing, one in biotechnology and 13 in footwear making.
No ceiling
Joint Director of Industries and Commerce Anil Uppin said that there was no ceiling as far as the number was concerned and there was scope for imparting training to any number of youths, aged between 18 and 35 with a minimum qualification of seventh standard (passed or failed). Job-oriented training would be imparted to youths who had completed ITI, diploma and other technical courses.
Demand for manpower
Mr. Uppin said there was a lot of demand for trained personnel in the service sector and construction activities. In addition to giving training to youths, there was a provision to send them to places like Bangalore for training in the field of IT/BT, hospitality, hospital, and other service sectors, for which the Government had entered into an understanding with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industries, he said. The Government had released Rs. 6.95 crore for implementing the programme, Mr. Uppin added.
