NRIs plan email campaign

Sarabjit Pandher

CHANDIGARH: The non-resident Indians, especially those based in the U.S. and Canada, have decided to send one million email messages each to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and chairperson of the ruling United Progressive Alliance Sonia Gandhi, seeking the immediate implementation of the promises, including the granting of voting rights to them.

Talking to The Hindu, Secretary of the US based Indo-American Democratic Caucus, Vikram Bajwa, said the NRIs would begin sending their emails from December 7 and continue to do so till January 7, 2007, when the next `Parvasi Bharati Sammelan' was scheduled to begin.

Mr. Bajwa said that the NRIs have been compelled to resort to sending the emails as nothing had moved after the Prime Minister made major promises at the `Sammelan' in Hyderabad last year.
