PMK leader writes to Sonia Gandhi

Special Correspondent

Seeks her directive to Territorial government

Puducherry: Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadoss has written to the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, seeking her directive to Puducherry Government to convene a special session of Assembly for conferring powers on elected civic bodies.

In the two page letter sent to Ms. Sonia Gandhi on Saturday, Mr. Ramadoss said the civic polls were held in July this year to revive democracy at the grassroots-level in the wake of a directive from Madras High Court on a public interest litigation. He said that despite the Assembly having had a month-long session, nothing had been done to implement the provisions of the Constitution. There was lack of steps to table the State Finance Commission reports.

He referred in his letter the bandh called by the federation of village panchayats presidents on December 12 in Puducherry and Karaikal.
