Police accused of foisting cases against TDP leaders

Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Telugu Desam Party took out a protest rally in Rajampet town on Saturday accusing the police officials of foisting cases under Prevention of Atrocities on SCs/STs Act on Desam activists while the Dalit Samakhya took out a counter rally charging the TDP leaders with perpetrating attacks on downtrodden sections.

Rajya Sabha member and district TDP president C. Ramachandraiah charged the police with implicating TDP functionaries in `false' cases under pressure from Congress leaders.

Warning that he would draw Parliament's attention on misdemeanours of Kadapa district police, the MP called upon TDP functionaries to gear up for sustained agitations.

Former Minister S. Saraswathi, former MLA M.V. Ramana Reddy and other party leaders warned that they would not tolerate if the police continued to foist cases on TDP members.

Charge against MP

Meanwhile, Dalit leaders and Congress leaders, who protested under aegis of Dalit Samakhya, charged Mr. Ramachandraiah with perpetrating attacks on Dalits in Mandapalli and Velagacherla villages in Rajampet mandal.

Accusing the MP of `blackmailing' officials and police, they wanted registering of an SC/ST case against him.

Dalit leaders B. Ayyanna and J. Ramana, Mala Mahanadu convenor Jayaraj and MRPS leader Sivaiah accused the TDP leaders of creating rifts among Dalits.

Rajampet ZPTC member Subbanna, Dalit leader M.P. Suresh and M.P. Venkatesh participated.
