Community certificates through schools

MADURAI : In an attempt at reducing hardship to students, steps were being taken to issue community certificates through schools from the next academic year, Minister for School Education, Thangam Thennarasu, said here on Saturday.

Talking to reporters, he said that the decision was taken to avoid difficulty for students to obtain the certificates from the Revenue Department. From the next year students would be able to get community certificates from schools along with the transfer certificate.

The Minister was here to conduct a review meeting with officials from the Education Department of Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Theni and Dindigul districts.

Mr. Thennarasu said that the Government was keen on improving the pass percentage of students in public examinations and hence, review meetings were held at different places to decide on the appropriate steps to be carried out in the next four months. Similar meetings had already been held at Kancheepuram and Coimbatore, he said and added that all district officials were geared up to focus on examinations.

Responding to a question, the Minister said that the report on `samicheer kalvi' (equitable education) was expected in February as the Muthukumaran Committee, appointed for the purpose, was holding public hearings across the State.

On the deletion of some "tough portions" in a few Plus-Two subjects, the Minister said that questions would not be asked from deleted portions in the examinations and the changes had been intimated to the schools through district officials.

According to him, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development had sanctioned Rs.300 crore for developing infrastructure in government schools.
