PALAKKAD: A colourful pageantry by schools in the district marked the opening of the three-day State school athletic meet at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Saturday. Over 300 students took part in the pageantry. Bharatamata School presented a dance and music programme. Students of Kannikkamatha Covent School displayed rhythmic movements in a mass PT display. St. Thomas School, Olavakkode, had a display of traditional art forms of Kerala, Kathakali and Mohiniyattam. Minister for Education M.A. Baby inaugurated the athletic meet. Director of Public Instructions M. Sivasankaran; K.K. Divakaran, K. Achuthan, MLAs; Olympian M.D. Valsamma; Kerala Sports Council president T.P. Dasan; and other senior officials were present.
