Publishing company honoured

CHENNAI:
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday presented a commendation certificate to the representatives of the Alliance Company in appreciation of its uninterrupted role in publishing books and promoting Tamil development. The publishing house, founded by V.Kuppusamy Iyer, had a long history, an official release here said, adding that its founder had won the acclaim of Gandhiji during his visit to Chennai in 1946.
It was hailed by leaders including Nethaji and Rajani for rendering great service to the nation, it recalled.
Alliance had not only published the works of Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Premchand and Kandehar but also brought out the books of the writers who laid the foundation for modern Tamil literature.
