CHENNAI: In order to improve the efficiency in investigating and solving white-collar crimes at a faster pace, the city police interacted with bankers at a meeting here on Saturday. Addressing the participants, Commissioner of Police Letika Saran touched upon the preventive aspects to be taken up by the bankers prior to sanctioning different types of loans to customers. She said the police received various complaints from the public and bankers for default in payments. Investigations in many cases revealed that the documents submitted by the borrowers concerned were forged. Similarly complaints from public about the threat from persons claiming to be agents or representatives of some private banks were also discussed. The bankers responded positively to the idea of having a liaison officer exclusively with the central crime branch (CCB) police in taking up investigations swiftly as the police required original documents from the banks for examination. The central crime branch (CCB), a wing under the city police, deals with complaints pertaining to bank frauds, misuse of credit cards, obtaining loans after submitting forged documents, job racket, land grabbing, etc. Many of the bankers agreed to the idea of sharing information, with the police, about money disbursed to defaulting borrowers. Additional Commissioner of Police S.R. Jangid, DCP (CCB) Dharmarajan participated.
