KANCHEEPURAM: The State Government has spent a sum of Rs. 28.37 lakhs at Nallur in Sriperumpudur Taluk for the first phase of the resettlement process of families evicted from Porur Lake bed. While levelling of the ground at the alternative site was taken up at a cost of Rs.1.50 lakh and approach road was formed at a cost of Re.1 lakh, another Rs. 2.07 lakh was spent for providing drinking water and sanitation facilities and for erecting streetlights at the alternative site. A sum of Rs. 60,000 was spent to feed the 2,000 families displaced from the Porur Lake bed and Rs. 23.20 lakh was disbursed for erecting temporary shelters at the one cent free plot allotted to them, according to Collector Pradeep Yadav. The Government has also sanctioned adequate funds for further infrastructure development works at the site. While Rs.15 lakhs was allocated for erecting 150 permanent streetlights, it has been proposed to lay inner and main roads at the alternative site at a cost of Rs. 14 lakhs. It has also been proposed to construct additional toilets (8 blocks) at a cost of Rs. 1.20 lakh, two additional hand pumps at a cost of Rs. 94,000 and constructing an over-head tank with a pipeline at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs, he added.
