Call to oppose torture in any form

HYDERABAD
: The Seminar on Preventing torture has given a call for opposing torture perpetrated in any form.
In the seminar organised by People's Watch -Andhra and Bar Association at the State High Court Advocates Association Hall on Saturday, Justice Jayachandra Reddy, former Judge of Supreme Court, said that before taking up the issue of violence and torture, one should also review the facilities provided to the Police Department for maintaining law and order.
Justice Reddy said that the atrocities perpetrated by some people exploiting loopholes in the law should not go unpunished.
High Court Judge G. Raghuram said it was the responsibility of the civic society to protest and stop violence taking place anywhere.
Head of Forensic Department, Osmania Medical College M. Narayana Reddy said torture could be physical, mental and sexual and only when it was stopped, law and order would prevail in the society.
People's Watch State Director M. Seshagiri Rao welcomed the gathering. Several advocates, social activists participated in the seminar.
