"A reward for serious cinema"
Ziya Us Salam
PANAJI:
Bangladesh's Abu Sayeed, Special Jury award winner at the 37th International Film Festival of India, calls his victory "a triumph of struggling filmmakers of the country."
Describing the award as a just reward for "sensitive and serious cinema," Mr. Sayeed told The Hindu that the film was the story of an average middle-class family in Bangladesh.
Nirontor deals with the insecurities of the middle-class, particularly women. "It is the story of a mentally and sexually tortured middle-class girl. It is a reflection of the society with its depiction of unemployed male youth and exploited women. I had to face financial constraints in making the film. Also, there is no system of tax exemption in Bangladesh."
