CUDDALORE: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called upon the Cuddalore district administration to facilitate the farmers to get the chitta and adangal without any difficulty. In a representation addressed to Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi, the CPI (M) said primary agricultural cooperative banks had laid down a precondition that only those farmers having the chitta and adangal would be eligible for farm loans. Other farmers who did not have those documents were facing problem in getting the loans. The party alleged that the Village Administrative Officers were demanding Rs. 1,000 to 2,000 for issuing the chitta and adangal. The party sought the intervention of the Collector to set right the situation.
Touch-screen
The party also pointed out that the touch-screen at the Cuddalore tahsildar office that had remained non-functional for the past four months must be set right immediately. There was an artificial shortage of paddy and groundnut seeds being supplied at subsidised prices through the Agriculture department. It was learnt that these seeds were going to the open market, and hence, the farmers were forced to go to Vriddhachalam to purchase the seeds. The party called upon the Collector to make available adequate quantity of seeds.
Supply of rice, kerosene
Fair price shops had cut down the supply of ration rice and kerosene to half of the entitlements of the cardholders. Moreover, the new cardholders were denied kerosene supply, and such a situation should be set right, the party noted. Those who participated in the meeting included S.Dhanasekaran, district secretary, and K.Madhavan, union secretary.
