GUWAHATI: Assam will host the 21st Indian Engineering Congress which be held in the city on December 21-24. The theme of the mega event to be organised by the Assam State centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) on the theme "Challenges of Engineering" for sustainable 10 per cent growth and beyond. R.M. Das, chairman, press and publicity sub-committee, told reporters on Saturday that over 2,000 technocrats and engineering scholars from different parts of the country and abroad would take part in the event being held for the first time in the northeast. The Indian Engineering Congress is the most sought after annual event among the members and non-member engineers of India and abroad in which engineers, scientists, policymakers, corporate leaders, technocrats and academicians discuss new engineering challenges, he said. A.K. Mitra, chairman of the organising committee, said that apart from six memorial lectures and interactive sessions, some of the critical issues of northeast would also be addressed in a separate session during the four-day event. Students selected to take part in the coming National Children's Science Congress would be enrolled as delegates and an interactive session would be held among young science talents and nationally acclaimed engineering scholars on the last day of the event.
