New Chief Justice for Delhi

NEW DELHI: The new Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Mukundakam Sharma, will be sworn in by the officiating Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, A.R. Kidwai, at Raj Niwas here on Monday.

Dr. Sharma, a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, was first appointed as judge of the Guwahati, High Court in January 1994. He has served as judge in the Patna High Court and is also chairman of Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee and in that capacity has been associated with various projects of providing legal aid.

John Deere scholarships awarded

NEW DELHI: John Deere Foundation has awarded scholarships to 10 Ansal Institute of Technology students. These students are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in professional fields in collaboration with North Dakota State University, United States, and would be completing their final year studies at the NDSU campus in Fargo. The Foundation has allocated a grant of $100,000 to the NDSU-AIT cooperation to be utilised over a period of four years, an AIT release said.

Plan to re-model Azadpur mandi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that the Fruit and Vegetables Market at Azadpur would soon be re-modelled to make it a mandi of international repute. She was speaking after dedicating a modern air-conditioned office complex and a modern air-conditioned Kisan Bhawan to the fruit and vegetables traders and their employees at Azadpur here over the weekend.

Delhi Development Minister Rajkumar Chauhan presided over the function. Delhi Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit and MLAs Jile Singh Chauhan and Ambrish Gautam were also present.

Hindu conference organised

NEW DELHI: Shri Guruji (Golwalkar) Centenary Celebration Committee organised a Hindu conference at Dwarka on Sunday. The event saw the participation of a large number of people and students from across the city. The conference was addressed by leading social activists and saints who recalled the contributions of Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, the second sarsanghchalak (head) of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, in the development of the nation. A medical camp and various contests were also organised on the occasion.
