BELLARY: Patri Basavanagowda, Upa Lok Ayukta, has said the coexistence of Kannada and Telugu-speaking people in Bellary was laudable and can be a model for the border district of Belgaum. Speaking at a function organised by the Bellary Bar Association to felicitate Ko. Chennabasappa and I. Basavaraj, both former district judges, on being conferred with the Karnataka Ekikarna Award here on Saturday, Mr. Basavanagowda said that after the unification of Karnataka, both Kannadigas and Telugu-speaking people have maintained cordial relations and have been living harmoniously. "If this is possible in Bellary why not in Belgaum? The people in the border district of Belgaum should take a cue from Bellary and live in harmony," he said. Mr. Basavanagowda underlined the need for the people in Belgaum to realise that the border issue was being kept alive by vested interests keeping in mind elections. Mr.Chennabasappa recalled his association with the Bar and the unification movement to retain Bellary in the State. He complimented the people of Bellary for living harmoniously without giving any scope for differences. I. Basavaraj, K.G.
