``Speed up loans for the jobless''
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI
: Chennai Collector, R.Jaya, has appealed to the banks to speed up loans for self-employment to educated unemployed youth.
Chairing a recent meeting, the Collector asked the banks to hasten the scrutiny and issue special sanctions under Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana and match the benchmark fixed at the state level bankers' committee held in September.
She pointed out that banks had provided only 517 sanctions amounting to Rs.281.32 lakh and arranging disbursement for 279 loans totalling Rs. 115.19 lakh. But, the target in the city for the year was 1,845 sanctions. Ms.Jaya said that a branchwise review by the controlling officers would be able to sort out the difficulties in reaching the target.
The bank heads were asked to instruct branches to maintain registers to ensure accountability and complete sanction by December end, said an official release.
