CHENNAI : Speakers at the centenary celebration of Sri V. Krishnaswami Iyer Charitable Trust showered praises on the founder for his services in education, at a function held here on Sunday. In his presidential address, MATSCIENCE founder Alladi K. Ramakrishnan recalled the words of Mahatma Gandhi, who had described Krishnaswami Iyer as a `mahapurusha.' Dr. Ramakrishnan lauded the late B. Venkataramani (who was secretary of the Trust) for his brilliance in mathematics. He also appealed to the Trustees to revive the spirit of Sanskrit language. Unveiling a portrait of Venkataramani, N. Ravi, Editor, The Hindu , said such pioneers had established organisations with a remarkable foresight and concern for the society. This was an opportunity to give back to the family, which had contributed to the common good, he said. Social worker Sarojini Varadappan said very few families possessed such sterling qualities and believed in serving society without fanfare and publicity. Trust secretary R. Raghunandan outlined the future plans of the organisation, which runs the Venkataramana Ayurveda College. It was proposed to integrate Allopathic and Ayurvedic methods to provide holistic treatment. Jagadguru Sri Krishnananda Theertha Swamigal blessed the inaugural function. Earlier, Ayurveda college principal Vijaya Seshadri welcomed the gathering. Trust executive member R. Krishnaswami proposed a vote of thanks. Madras High Court Judge Prabha Sridevan and K. S. Vishwanatha Sarma, professor of the Ayurveda college, participated.
