Sidhu will get justice, says SAD leader

Chandigarh: Describing the conviction of cricketer-turned-politician Navjyot Singh Sidhu by a court here as "unfortunate," Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday expressed confidence that the BJP MP would get justice from the Supreme Court.

"He [Sidhu] is an honest, hard working and dedicated person. I am sure Mr. Sidhu will get justice from the Supreme Court," Mr. Badal told reporters when asked to comment on Mr. Sidhu's conviction.

Mr. Sidhu was convicted for causing the death of a Patiala resident in an incident of road rage in 1988.

The Akali leader, an MP from Faridkot, declined to comment on whether he considered the case against Mr. Sidhu was "politicaly motivated."

"I will not comment on this...everybody knows the truth," he said. Mr. Badal said Mr. Sidhu would be among the active campaigners for the party in the Assembly polls. The BJP is an ally of SAD in Punjab. — PTI
