KOCHI: The launch of an online disability evaluation facility was the highlight of events held in the city as part of the International Day of Disabled Persons on Sunday. The online evaluation facility is a joint effort of the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Indian Academy of Paediatrics (Childhood Disability Group) and Adarsh Charitable Trust. It was launched by Adarsh trust vice-chairman K.P. Padmakumar. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish spoke on enabling the differentially-abled through e-access. He also dedicated the project. Dinesh Thampy, Prasannan, a visually challenged engineer; Dr. Junaid Rehman and Dr. Pratap Kini and Dr. Deepak Sharan were among those who offered felicitations. Dr. Abraham Paul welcomed the gathering and Dr.S. Sachithananda Kamath proposed the vote of thanks. The District-level programmes began with a sports meet for the physically challenged at St. Albert's High School grounds. The District Collector inaugurated the sports meet. The sports meet was followed by a meeting attended, among others, by K.V. Thomas, V.D. Satheesan and Jose Thettayil, MLAs and the district president of the association for the physically challenged, Tajudeen. The meeting was followed by a cultural programme at the Durbar Hall grounds. Nine physically challenged couples got married at the AJ Hall, Kaloor, in a mass marriage organised by Prathyasa Foundation, a charitable organisation. The programme was inaugurated by Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma. The chairman of the corporation for physically challenged, Uzhavoor Vijayan, participated. A cultural programme was organised at the AJ Hall in the evening.
