Sterlite commissions Balco's Korba smelter

MUMBAI: In line with its cost reduction initiative, Sterlite Industries has commissioned Balco's new 2.45 lakh tpa aluminium smelter at Korba, Chhattisgarh. In a statement on the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company said the performance of the smelter, which had been improving steadily, would reach full capacity by the end of this financial year and all four units of the 540 MW power plant were operating. This expansion takes the total aluminium capacity of Balco to 3.45 lakh tpa with full energy-integration.
